Welcome to the Infant School!

The Infant School at Newcastle School for Boys is made up of the Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and Years 1 and 2. Our aim is to provide a happy learning environment with excellent teaching and learning where boys can flourish. Boys are based at North Avenue until the end of Year 2 before moving to West Avenue to become a junior boy.

Having recently being given an outstanding grading by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), the Early Years at Newcastle School for Boys is leading early years’ education in the North East and is accomplished in giving your son a flying start. Boys begin their learning journey with us from the age of 3 in our ground floor Nursery, which has access to the outdoors. From the September after they are 4, boys progress through to Reception to complete the Foundation Stage. Boys begin to be taken on regular trips and visits and benefit from specialist music and PE teaching.

Once boys have completed the Foundation Stage, they move to Year 1 where they follow a varied curriculum and in addition to specialist teaching for PE and music, they begin French and ICT. Regular trips and visits continue and in the summer term, boys have the opportunity to go away for the weekend on a two night residential visit to the Lake District.

By Year 2, boys are encouraged to become more independent whilst still receiving expert teaching and care, including weekly swimming lessons at Northumbria University pool. During the summer term, they have the opportunity to attend a two night residential at Ford Castle. They are able to take part in a wider range of co-curricular activities such as judo and fencing.

Parents and boys are warmly encouraged to visit our school and I look forward to welcoming you soon.
