Infants

Welcome to the Infant School

The Infant School at Newcastle School for Boys is made up of the Early Years and Key Stage One. Our aim is to provide a happy learning environment where boys can flourish. Boys are based at North Avenue until Year Two when they move to West Avenue to begin the transition to becoming a Junior boy.

North Avenue underwent a major refurbishment in August 2010. Boys may begin their learning journey with us from the age of three in our brand new ground floor Nursery which has access to the outdoor environment. From the September after they are four, boys progress through to Reception to complete the Foundation Stage. At this point, boys begin to be taken on regular trips and visits to places such as Jesmond Dene, Kirkley Hall and Fulwell Windmill. They have music and some PE specialists and benefit from using our newly developed outdoor environment.

Once they have completed the Foundation Stage, boys begin Key Stage One. The Year One boys have new classrooms situated on the first floor and have a varied curriculum. Boys begin French and ICT lessons and continue to have a music specialist and external sports specialists for some of their PE lessons. Regular trips and visits continue and in the summer term, boys have the opportunity to go away for the weekend on a residential visit to the Lake District.

By Year Two, the boys have moved across the road to the West Avenue site but are still very much part of the life of Infant Department. They have the opportunity to take part in a wider range of After School Activities such as Speech and Drama, Fencing and African Drumming. Boys are encouraged to become more independent whilst still receiving expert teaching and care.

We do hope you come and talk to us and see us in our school.
