FAQ

Q: What are the fees and can we pay monthly?

A: The fees are £2,630 Per term for boys in Reception to Year 6 and £2,890 For Year 7 upwards. Lunch is £155 per term. Nursery and Pre-Nursery fees are full time £2300 per term or oart time £42.50 per day or £27.50 per morning. You can pay monthly by direct debit

Q: Are there any bursaries or scholarships?

A: There are governors’ bursaries for boys whose family financial circumstances have changed since they started at the school. Boys must have been at the school for 12 months to qualify. There are a number of scholarships for boys entering Year 7 and Year 9. All boys are encouraged to sit for the scholarships and they are awarded for academic ability, performance arts, all- round ability and expressive arts.

Q: How do we apply?

A: There is an application form enclosed with the prospectus.

Q: Can we visit the school at any time?

A: Yes. If you want to meet boys and staff please contact us to make a mutually convenient appointment.

Q: Do the boys have to sit an entrance exam?

A: Boys joining us in Nursery and Reception do not sit any formal assessment but boys joining us later undertake assessment tasks relevant to their age. There is an opportunity for boys to spend a day with us as part of the process. For the boys entering Year 7 and Year 9 there is a formal assessment and scholarship day in January.

Q: How do you deal with bullying?

A: Boys and Parents are encouraged to report any concerns immediately and any incidents are fully investigated and appropriate action will always be taken.

Q: What sport facilities do you have?

A: We have 2 multi purpose halls with another one being built for September 2007, and a sports hall. We have two artificial grass surfaces and a rubberised sports surface. We use outstanding facilities off-site for rugby, soccer, cricket, swimming, tennis, golf and baseball.

Q: Do your boys take National Tests (SATs)?

A: No, but we do follow the key essentials of the national curriculum and our boys are regularly and appropriately assessed. Our boys are given a much wider curriculum than that required by the national curriculum.

Q: What time can I drop my son off?

A: We have a breakfast club at North Avenue starting at 7-45am.
School gates are open at 8-15am
School officially starts at 8-40am
There is after-school supervision available until 6-00pm

Q: I have a daughter as well. Where could she go to school?

A: We have a special relationship with Newcastle upon Tyne Church High School, which is nearby and shares a similar educational philosophy. We recommend you look there first.

Q: What extra curricular activities are there?

A: We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities including: sport, performance and expressive arts, outdoor pursuits, ski-ing, golf society, theatre visits, residential trips, educational & cultural visits, visiting speakers, team building, challenge club and problem-solving activities.

Q: Can my son learn a musical instrument?

A: More than one! We have many visiting music teachers who cover a huge range of instruments. We have several choirs, bands, orchestras and ensembles.

Q: What provision is there for boys who may have learning difficulties?

A: We have a full-time support for learning teacher assisted by part-time staff, classroom assistants and nursery nurses. All boys are assessed on entry and, if appropriate, given an individualised learning programme.

Q: What about boys who are very clever?

A: We plan for differentiated learning and provide a range of enrichment and extension opportunities.

Q: Is there a Parent Teachers Association (PTA)?

A: We are in the process of forming a working party to establish a number of parental support groups.

Q: Can parents get involved in the life of the school?

A: We welcome parental involvement in our school and each year group has different needs and opportunities for parental help, support & involvement.
