Headmaster's Update (from the launch letter)
I have now held three meetings with interested parents to discuss the launch of the ‘Friends of Newcastle School for Boys’.
As parents and guardians, you will automatically become members of this association along with staff and governors. Membership will also be open to former pupils, parents of former pupils and former staff, this should include just about anyone who has ever been associated with the school!
The aim of the ‘Friends’ is to promote better communication between all members of the school community, past and present, and to engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of pupils.
There will be a strong ‘social’ element to the function of the ‘Friends’, with a variety of events organised which will provide opportunities for parents from all parts of the school to meet. There will also be an element of fundraising to provide specific items for each of the school sites.
The next steps:
We now have in place a draft constitution. A copy of this is available on request from each school office and is also on the school website by using this link
On Wednesday 13th February at the Parents Reception, we will vote to accept this constitution, elect the committee members and officers and then the ‘Friends’ will be ‘live’.
Its first task will then be to organise a Wine Tasting Event in the week after Easter.
The committee will consist of: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and five other members.
The Headmaster will be President of the ‘Friends’ and attend all meetings.
I am very excited by the initial discussions that I have had to move the ‘Friends’ to this point. There is clearly plenty of enthusiastic support from parents for this initiative which will form a very important part of our community in the future and I warmly encourage you join or support us.
