A bit of cross curricular stuff!

A bit of cross curricular stuff!

After lunch on Friday 5th March all Year 7 set off down to South Gosforth Metro station to catch the train to see an exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery called ‘Beatles to Bowie’. The boys saw fantastic photographs of the pop artists who were performing in the sixties (all of which Mrs Adcock - Art teacher) knew and some that Mr Hopkinson (Music teacher) had heard of too!). The boys were given a quiz to identify certain artists and photographers and most managed to complete the questionnaire without a problem. They were then lucky enough to have a quick look round another exhibition called ‘Dazzle’ which contained pieces from the permanent Laing collection and was about ‘Op‘ art. They were able to see work by Bridget Riley and Patrick Hughes amongst others. The pieces done by Riley looked as though they were moving as they played tricks on your eyes, but they were definitely still and the vase of rainbows by Patrick Hughes was a real bonus.
