In Physical Education & Games at Newcastle School for Boys we hope to produce young men of excellent character by creating in boys a sense of enjoyment and purpose in undertaking physical activity and an understanding of its lifelong benefits.

We aim to provide a supportive sporting environment where every boy is challenged, whether his motivation is participation or elite performance. Boys are encouraged to develop an understanding of the principles and benefits of leadership, teamwork, fair play, integrity and good sportsmanship. This is achieved not only in lessons and competitive opportunities but also via our extensive touring programme which has recently included tours to Amsterdam, Belfast, Isle of Man, Italy, Dubai and South Africa. We also aim to support the highest levels of individual academic progress and achievement for all boys by providing academic GCSE and A level Physical Education as well as Higher Education and career advice in this field.

Boys are given the opportunity to participate and compete internally and externally in a range of sports including rugby, football, cricket, hockey, table tennis, badminton, tennis, squash, athletics, swimming, tennis and golf. We also aim to provide a range of co-curricular opportunities which take place before, during and after school. These include weightlifting, judo and tae kwon do. A key feature of P.E & Games at NSB are our excellent links with local clubs. We regularly use the superb facilities at South Northumberland Cricket Club, Northern Rugby Club, Gosforth Lawn Tennis Club and the Newcastle Goals Soccer Centre. Also, in order to develop our regional and national sporting profile we are committed to accessing a range of current professional players and coaches to work with our boys. Current examples include Steve Harper (Hull City FC), Melvyn Betts (ex Durham, Warwickshire & Middlesex) and Ally Hogg (Newcastle Falcons & Scotland).

We are proud of our growing sporting reputation and celebrate the successes of individuals and teams alike. Our most recent successes include having 7 players invited to join the Newcastle Falcons Academy, becoming ESFA National Small Schools U11 Football Champions and our 1st XV being crowned Society of Heads National Rugby Champions.
