Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships and Bursaries at The Newcastle School

At The Newcastle School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential . As a leading independent school in Newcastle, we are proud to offer a range of scholarships and bursaries that recognise excellence, reward talent, and help make an outstanding independent education more accessible to families across the North East and beyond.

Scholarships and bursaries are awarded independently and students may be eligible to receive both forms of support. Scholarships recognise achievement and potential, while bursaries are awarded based on demonstrated financial need.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Rewarding Excellence and Potential

Our scholarship programme is designed to recognise pupils who demonstrate exceptional ability, talent, commitment and promise. Scholarships are awarded following assessment and are based on merit, achievement and future potential.

Scholarship awards can be worth up to 50% of tuition fees, depending on the strength of an applicant's performance and the category of award.

Scholarship Categories

Scholarships are available for students entering:

  • Year 7
  • Sixth Form (Year 12)

Awards may be available in the following areas:

  • Academic
  • Sport
  • Music
  • Art
  • All-Round Achievement

These scholarships recognise students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and ability both inside and outside the classroom.

Scholarship Assessment Process

Families wishing to apply for a scholarship should indicate this as part of their school application. Applicants will then be invited to take part in the appropriate scholarship assessments, which are typically held during the Spring Term assessment period.

Assessments allow our team to identify students with exceptional aptitude and the potential to flourish within The Newcastle School community.

High-Level Sixth Form Scholarships

Exceptional Support for Exceptional Talent

For a small number of highly gifted students entering Year 12, Newcastle School offers prestigious High-Level Sixth Form Scholarship Awards, with funding of up to 100% of school fees available in exceptional cases.

These highly competitive awards are aimed at students performing at the very highest level for their age and discipline.

BURSARIES

Making Independent Education More Accessible

As part of our commitment to widening access, The Newcastle School offers means-tested bursaries for families who would benefit from an independent school education but may not otherwise be able to afford the full fees.

Bursary support is available for students joining from Year 3 onwards and is assessed using a range of financial information, including household income and overall family circumstances.

How Much Financial Support Is Available?

Bursary assistance is awarded on a sliding scale based on individual need.

  • Support can be worth up to 50% of school fees
  • In exceptional circumstances, greater support may be approved by the Governors
  • Awards are reviewed annually
  • Families are asked to provide updated financial information each year

While every application is considered individually, significant bursary awards are unlikely for families with a gross household income exceeding £65,000pm, have a second property or any significant savings.
