Newcastle School for Boys Celebrates GCSE Success and Looks Ahead to an Exciting New Chapter
Students, staff and families are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results that have improved on last year’s performance and significantly outperform national averages.
At a time when GCSE results nationally have seen a slight decline, our pupils have bucked the trend, achieving impressive outcomes across a wide range of subjects.
This year:
- 50% of all grades were awarded at grades 9-6
- 28.2% of grades were awarded at grades 9-7
- 90.6% of grades were awarded at grades 9-4
There were particularly strong performances in Art, History and Biology, with Art proving a standout subject. An outstanding 45% of Art grades were awarded at grade 9, highlighting the creativity, dedication and talent of our students.
Alongside excellent subject performance, there were some remarkable individual achievements. One pupil achieved an exceptional nine grade 9s, demonstrating the high levels of ambition and commitment shown by students across the year group.
Head, Mr Hallam said:
“We are delighted with this year’s GCSE results. Our students have worked incredibly hard and these outcomes are richly deserved. To improve on last year’s results at a time when national attainment has become more challenging is a tremendous achievement. We are proud of every student and grateful to our dedicated staff and supportive families who have helped make this success possible.”
Many of today’s successful GCSE students will now progress to the School’s Sixth Form, where they can choose from a broad range of A Level subjects and Cambridge Technical Awards, providing flexible pathways towards university, apprenticeships and future careers.
This year’s results are especially significant as they come ahead of an exciting new chapter in the School’s history. From September, Newcastle School for Boys will become The Newcastle School, reflecting the School’s evolving future and wider educational offer.
The School is also looking forward to welcoming girls into the Sixth Form for the first time, creating a vibrant and diverse post-16 community as it embarks on its next phase of development.
As students celebrate today’s achievements, the School looks forward with confidence and excitement to all that lies ahead.
