Outstanding Fine Art success with this year’s GCSE results
Pupils at Newcastle School for Boys are celebrating another year of strong GCSE results, with performance across subjects exceeding national averages and exceptional achievements in Fine Art.
This year, 27% of all GCSE grades awarded to NSB pupils were grade 9 to 7 with half of the results awarded at 9 to 6, exceeding national averages and reflecting the school’s commitment to academic excellence and individual pupil progress.
One of the standout success stories this year was in Fine Art. Over 60% of pupils achieved a coveted grade 9; the highest possible mark. Even more impressively, the subject recorded a value-added score of just under +3 grades above pupils’ baseline levels, a figure of significant statistical note. This reflects both the exceptional talent of the pupils and the expertise and dedication of the Art department.
Headmaster Mr Graeme Hallam praised the results, saying:
“These results are a testament to the hard work and resilience of our pupils, the dedication of our teachers, and the strength of the supportive relationships that underpin all we do at the school. I am especially delighted to see our pupils thriving creatively. The success in Fine Art is truly exceptional.”
Deputy Head Mr Alex Newman, added:
“We are extremely proud of how all our pupils have performed this year. The fact that our results are once again above national averages demonstrates the strength of our teaching and our tailored approach to learning. The Fine Art department’s achievement is particularly striking; a value-added score of +2.8 is remarkable, and speaks volumes about how we help each pupil to exceed expectations.”
